US Soccer Stars Tobin Heath and Christen Press Confirm They've Been Dating for 8 Years

Serena Williams' Husband Tells Why He Invested in Angel City Soccer

Tobin Heath and Christen Press have been in it for the long haul.

After dodging the specifics of their relationship for years, the former U.S. women’s national team soccer players officially revealed they’ve been dating for eight years during an interview at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

“Tobin and I were not really friends,” Christen explained on the July 28 episode of Peacock’s Watch with Alex Cooper. “We weren’t really running in the same circles, and then as soon as I actually got to know her, there was just like, a magnetism. I was like, ‘That’s what I want’ and I never looked back. I still feel the exact same way.”

From the sidelines, it may look like they still have that newly-in-love look. But in actuality, that’s their everyday bliss.

“The other day, someone said to us, ‘Oh, you guys just met, you look like you’re in love,’” the 35-year-old recalled. “And I’m like, ‘No, it’s been eight years.’”

For her part, Tobin, 36, still can’t believe this fairy tale is what she scored.

“Sometimes we look at each other, we’re just like, ‘Is this actually like real?’” she added. “Are we that lucky?”

Tobin and Christen—who earned a bronze medal for Team USA at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics—haven’t hid their relationship. In fact, the Re-Cap Show hosts joked their romance is a badly kept secret, especially for their teammates.

“We were never in the closet, like, hiding it,” Christen explained. “Our people always knew what was going on with us. It was the public, the fans that we got our little privacy.”

As for why the couple attempted to stay quiet about their relationship for so long? They wanted to maintain professionalism.

“I think there was something a little bit forbidden when it comes to navigating that situation,” Christen said. “We’re both forwards so competing for a spot, competing for time. And then off the field, locking it down, being in a relationship and navigating that through the early, early stages of our relationship."

Of course, being off the same team made things easier, too.

“It wasn’t until we both weren’t playing on the same team that it was a little bit easier for us to come forward and share our relationship a little bit more,” Christen noted, before joking, “Tobin always played ahead of me, it was set.”

Ultimately, they wanted to be on defense when it came to their privacy.

“It’s kind of this protective bubble,” Tobin explained of keeping their relationship status within the confines of their team and closest friends. “It was kind of more normal than it sounds.”
